The chair of the Kerry Vintners’ Federation says businesses are already crippled with charges without the introduction of a ‘sunshine tax’.
This is a series of proposed new centralised charges for street side catering on the footpaths outside pubs and restaurants, which would see a €100 licence charge, as well as €125 for every table and four charges, and a €635 fee for street signage.
The issue was raised recently in Cork where the city and county councils are looking at imposing the charges on a seasonal basis; it has yet to be discussed in Kerry.
There are fears the charges will affect tourism in Kerry, especially the pub and restaurant trade.
Chair of the Kerry Vintners’ Federation, Ger Counihan of Bunkers Bar, Killorglin says pubs are already paying enough charges.
