A Kerry TD says proposals relating to tougher speeding laws are unfair on people in rural Ireland.
Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae was speaking after Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross received approval from cabinet members for a graduated system for speeding offences.
He says he can’t understand what “gripe” Minister Ross has with rural Ireland.
Deputy Healy-Rae believes these measures will force people out of their cars, adding the government need to realise the distances being travelled by people in rural Ireland.
He says it’s disgraceful these proposals received approval.
