A Kerry TD says an explosion in the seal population is having a detrimental effect on the county’s fishing industry.
Kerry TD Michael Healy Rae claims that, because of inaction with seal culls, fishermen are now suffering very serious losses.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service met with fishermen and representatives of the commercial fishing industry based in the Dingle peninsula to discuss the issue.
Following this, the NPWS says it will investigate solutions for deterring seal interactions with static fishing gear.
However, Deputy Healy-Rae has slammed this response; he says a seal cull is needed immediately and nothing less will do.
