Kerry TD says delays to an LNG project is akin to kicking it into the Atlantic Ocean

A Kerry TD says delays to an LNG project is akin to kicking it into the Atlantic Ocean.

Deputy Michael Healy-Rae was speaking about an ESRI report on the potential benefits of a natural gas terminal in North Kerry.

The report shows an LNG facility on the Shannon Estuary would allow Irish consumers to benefit from highly competitive global LNG markets, thus bringing a reduction in their annual energy bill.

The High Court recently referred a number of questions to the European Court of Justice relating to a five-year extension of planning permission for the LNG terminal on the Shannon Estuary.

Deputy Michael Healy-Rae says he’s disappointed that the High Court decision was given prior to the publication of the ESRI report, a move which he says is likely to delay the project by a further two years.
