Kerry TD says decision to send Shannon LNG case to Europe is a disgrace

An Independent Kerry TD says the decision to send the Shannon LNG case to Europe is a disgrace, saying it’s being kicked down the road again.

Deputy Michael Healy-Rae was speaking after High Court Judge Mr Justice Garrett Simons said he couldn’t deliver a ruling and sent the case for determination to the Courts of Justice of the European Union.

Friends of the Irish Environment took the case against a decision last year by An Bórd Pleanala to grant a five-year extension to the planning permission for the proposed liquefied natural gas terminal on the Tarbert-Ballylongford landbank.

Deputy Michael Healy-Rae says he’s bitterly disappointed with this latest decision, adding that the development of the site is of strategic importance to the sustainability of communities in North Kerry and Limerick.
