A Kerry TD has branded proposals around slurry spreading “shocking”.
Independent Deputy Michael Healy-Rae has raised his concerns with the Environment Minister Denis Naughton on plans to ban splash plates for slurry spreading.
The device is used to control the direction of the flow of slurry from the vacuum tank.
The proposal is part of Ireland’s efforts to reduce ammonia emissions under EU health legislation.
However, Deputy Healy-Rae said the plan is completely impractical and will be extremely financially damaging to farmers and contractors.
