Brendan Griffin   A Kerry South TD has called for a court case involving free legal aid to be investigated. Deputy Brendan Griffin claims that a person with assets of over one million euro was granted free legal aid. The Fine Gael deputy is asking the Legal Aid Board to fully investigate the matter. To qualify for free legal aid a person’s income cannot exceed 18,000 euro per annum and they can’t have more than 320,000 euro in disposable capital. The Justice Minister Alan Shatter told Deputy Griffin in the Dail that the Legal Aid Board has assured him that it investigates any cases where a client is suspected of providing a false declaration of means.
