Good news for the County comes in the form of the Under-17 UEFA Championships to be held in the Ukraine at the end of the month. Ex-Kingdom Boys and Kerry Under-21 striker, and presently of Shelbourne, Stephen McCarthy has been selected as one of the 2 stand-by strikers for the championships. Ex-Killarney Celtic left back Kevin O’Sullivan may also be selected on stand-by, if not the squad itself, with ex-Killarney Athletic defender Brendan Moloney, now of Nottingham Forest, also very much in the frame.Meanwhile, Kerry’s loss is proving Dublin’s gain, as some of the county’s finest players are trying their hand in the capital. At Under-17 level, ex-Kingdom Boys players, Theo Diggins and Damien Quirke have signed for St. Pats in the DDSL. John Dineen, of Kingdom Boys, is now playing a pivotal centre back role with Belvedere Boys.Another Kerry youngster in great demand, is Darren Dennehy. He is torn between two Premiership clubs, Everton and Sunderland after both offered him professional terms.
