The Dingle Way Walking Trail in West Kerry

County Kerry receives one of the highest amounts of funding for walking trails.

Figures from the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring show that the government spends €2.6 million on the Walks Scheme nationwide annually.

The 1,900 participating landholders receive a payment for the development, maintenance and enhancement of 39 National Waymarked Ways and Looped Walking Routes that pass through their land.

€371,442 was spent on the scheme in Kerry last year, second only to Cork on almost €820,000.
