Kerry ranks second in Lonely Planet Best in Europe list

Kerry ranks just behind Kent in England in the Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2015. Red Deer Stag at Killarney National Park. Photograph taken by John Delea of the Wild Deer Association. The online guide to “the most compelling destinations on the continent” this summer says Kerry is perfect for children – and adults – with a sense of adventure. It also says the county’s mysterious islands; mist-wreathed mountains and lakes; castles, abbeys and other ruins appeal to the imagination of travellers of all ages. The travel guide recommends taking the short ferry ride to Great Blasket Island, horse-riding on Rossbeigh beach, surfing or taking “an epic journey” through Killarney National Park as experiences for families to enjoy. Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry are commended to keep younger visitors engaged, and Fungi also gets a mention.
