Kerry Priests warned of possible counterfeit scam

A number of priests in the Diocese are concerned they may be the targets of a possible counterfeit scam. Parish Priests in parts of East Kerry and North Cork have warned colleagues to watch out for suspicious behaviour. In recent weeks, priests in the area have been approached in their presbyteries by a man who asks that a mass be said for a dead relative. It appears the man only carries 50 euro notes, raising suspicions that the money is counterfeit. Gardai have been contacted by one Priest who refused to take money from a man in these circumstances however they say they cannot investigate unless it is established the money is fake.
