A spokesman for Kerry’s Islamic community says members of his faith have noticed a rise in anti-Muslim, xenophobic comments on social media since the Manchester attack.
Dr Rizwan Khan, who’s chairman of the Kerry Islamic Outreach Society, helped organise a vigil in Tralee last evening in response to global violence.
He says he always tries to engage with people who post bigoted comments in an effort to address their concerns.
However, he says not one online troll has ever taken up an offer of dialogue.
Dr Khan says the vast majority of Muslims are disgusted by the attack in Manchester and support efforts to counteract extremism.
