Kerry Mountain Rescue advise against climbing McGillycuddy’s Reeks due to snow and icy conditions

Following yesterday’s rescue of three climbers from Carrauntwohill, Kerry Mountain Rescue are issuing a warning message to all walkers and climbers. KMRT warningThey are advising that all high mountains in Kerry, especially the McGillycuddy’s Reeks are very dangerous due to snow and ice and in particular around Carrauntoohil. They’re asking the public  to stay away from steep ground on the McGillycuddy’s Reeks, unless they are experienced in winter mountaineering and are well prepared for wintry conditions. Damien Courtney with Kerry Mountain Rescue says it’s also important that climbers shouldn’t follow footprints made in the snow by previous climbers, as they may not be able to descend from the mountain safely: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/34417/medium/”]
