A Kerry mother says her children were devastated after learning there was a confirmed case of COVID-19 in their primary school.

The school along with a secondary school in the same area sent home some of their students today after being notified of cases.

The secondary school was informed that a student in its school had tested positive for COVID-19.

Radio Kerry News understands that one pupil also tested positive for the virus in the primary school.

That's a mother of two children attending a primary school in Kerry where a positive case of COVID-19 was confirmed today.

She says the children were just getting back into the school routine when the call came this morning not to bring them in:

Meanwhile, a Gaelic football club in the vicinity of the schools has sought advice from the Kerry GAA.

A spokesperson for the club says they contacted the Kerry County Board and Croke Park and were advised to suspend training for the moment.

The spokesperson for the GAA club says they are monitoring the situation.

He says the club has no direct connection with the two confirmed cases.

Kerry GAA also told the club to highlight the importance of completing the GAA's Return to Play protocols.
