Kerry mother pleads for medicinal cannabis for daughter

A Kerry mother is pleading with the Health Minister to get medicinal cannabis for her teenage daughter.

The call comes as Cork mother Vera Twomey continues her protest walk to Dublin after being refused the drug for daughter Ava, who has a rare form of epilepsy, which Vera believes could be helped by taking medicinal cannabis.

Mags McElligott’s 16-year-old daughter Tina was diagnosed with the incurable genetic disorder Alpers last year.

The Kilfynn mother believes medicinal cannabis could help the seizures which Tina suffers from and is prepared to go the United States, if necessary, to get it.
