A Kerry MEP is welcoming initial results of a European consultation which shows most people want to stop the clocks changing.
Kilcummin native Sean Kelly is Ireland’s only representative on the European Parliament Working Group on the Bi-Annual Clock Change.
He says while the official results of the consultation have yet to be published, reports indicate more than 80% of respondents are in favour of abolishing the clock change and keeping summertime all year round.
There were 4.6 million responses received, the highest ever engagement for an EU public consultation.
MEP Kelly says they now need a proposal to come from the Commission, and for it to be quickly endorsed by Parliament and the 27 Member States.
