The new Directive aims to enhance rights of musicians, performers and authors, as well as news publishers, to negotiate better deals for the use of their works on internet platforms.
It also strives to ensure that the internet remains a space for freedom of expression.
YouTube, Facebook and Google News are some of the internet household names that will be most directly affected by this legislation.
