Kerry MEP calls for EU ban on Brazilian beef

A Kerry MEP has labelled comments by the EU Commissioner for Food, on controls on Brazilian meat, as ‘sincere but naive’.

During a European Parliament debate on the consequences of the Brazilian meat scandal, Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis outlined the level of protection against the import of risky products.

In response Ireland South MEP Seán Kelly reiterated his call for a ban on Brazilian beef imports to the EU and for the exclusion of meat products from the ongoing Mercosur trade talks:

The Kilcummin native said it’s his view that ‘Brazilian beef barons are never going to change’ and the EU should be doing the same as the US and China: banning Brazilian beef imports in Europe.
