Elizabeth Coppin from Listowel was born in the County Home in Killarney. As a young girl in the 1960s, she was held in three Magdalene laundries. Elizabeth took a case to the UN Committee Against Tourist regarding the abuse she received. She argued that that through her enforced incarceration the Irish State had violated her rights under articles 12, 13, 14 and 16 of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
