Kerry landowners warned that burning season has now closed

The Department of Agriculture has issued a strong warning to landowners and farmers in Kerry that the burning season has now closed.
It says if someone lights a fire from now until August 31st they risk prosecution and such lands are not eligible for payment under the Basic Payment Scheme and other schemes.
The Department says where lands are identified as burnt it may result in an inspection.
It is urging anyone who sees any suspicious activity to contact the Gardai and report any uncontrolled or unattended fires to the Fire Service.
Kerry Fire Service attended almost 200 gorse fires last year.
