Kerry IFA rep urges landowners to apply for Walks Scheme

A Kerry IFA representative is urging landowners to apply for the National Walks Scheme.

Applications are now being accepted for the scheme which was allocated €2 million in funding in last October’s budget.

It’s understood up to 2,000 farmers could benefit from the expansion of the scheme.

IFA National Hill Committee Chairman and Kenmare farmer, Flor McCarthy said that there are a significant number of walks that will be in a position to apply.

Agriculture Minister Michael Creed also confirmed to the IFA that legislation to cover landowners in the event of an accident will be published shortly and will be rolled out initially on a pilot basis.
