Kerry IFA Chair says he doesn’t condone farmers setting illegal fires

The Chair of Kerry IFA says he doesn’t condone farmers setting illegal fires.

Pat O’Driscoll was speaking following a large fire in Killarney National Park last weekend.

The burning season is currently closed, and Mr O’Driscoll is urging farmers and landowners to operate within the laws.

An IFA campaign has reduced the number of gorse fires set during the closed season, according to the Kerry Chair.

Pat O’Driscoll doesn’t believe the fire in Killarney National Park was set by a farmer.

He says burning is part of a management system for farmers and wants to see an extension of the burning season until the end of March.
