Kerry hosts Irish Musical Societies’ 50th anniversary celebrations

This weekend Kerry plays host to 50th anniversary celebrations of the Association of Irish Musical Societies or AIMS. Aims Over 130 musical societies, throughout Ireland are traveling to Killarney this weekend for the annual Awards Ceremony, taking place in the INEC. This year Kerry musical societies have received five nominations for the national musical awards. Tralee Musical Society has been nominated in four categories for its production of ‘Sister Act’, while the Light Opera Society of Tralee has received one nomination for ‘Into the Woods’. For Tralee Musical Society, in the Gilbert section Oliver Hurley has been nominated in the best director category, his brother John Hurley has received a nomination for his technical wizardry for his work on Sister Act. Jackie O’Mahony who played to leading role of Deloris is nominated as best comedienne, while Sister Act is also nominated for best chorus under the stewardship of Geraldine Heaslip. In the Sullivan section, Aisling O’Carroll has been short listed as best singer for her role as Cinderella in ‘Into the Woods’. Members of Tralee and Killarney Musical Societies will also perform a piece choreographed by Oliver Hurley for Saturday night’s glitzy awards ceremony.
