Kerry has the highest number of planning appeals pending with An Bord Pleanála.
Nine Kerry cases are currently undecided with the planning authority; in comparison, Cork has six, Dublin City Council has seven and Connacht has only one.
Spokesperson for Rural Affairs Eamonn Ó Cuív says the efficiencies first need to be examined in An Bord Pleanála in an effort to speed up planning appeals.
He says more resources can then be allocated if needed.
The Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West adds a little foresight would prevent vacancies arising on the planning authority board.
The Regional Director for the Southern Region with the Construction Industry Federation, Conor O’Connell, says the planning process seems to be never ending.
He adds residential development applications shouldn’t be prioritised over one-off residential or commercial developments, just because of the housing crisis.
