Kerry has had the highest increase nationally in people taking part in the Seniors Alert Scheme.
It provides personal monitored alarms for older people, which allows them to immediately call for help in the event of a break-in, fall, or accident in their home.
A new report on the Seniors Alert Scheme shows that between September 2015 and the end of December 2016, it expanded to cover over 1% of Ireland’s over 65 population.
The highest increase in participant numbers in that time was in Kerry.
There are now 308 people in Kerry taking part in the scheme, that’s 1.4% of the county’s over 65 population.
