Kerry has high number of pub closure orders

The county has the second highest number of pub closure orders for underage drinking nationally. Mayo is top of the list with 60 closures while Kerry comes second with 23. Overall this represents 7 per cent of orders issued to close after being convicted of selling drink to under 18’s. According to figures released to The Labour Party Kerry has one of the highest rates of prosecutions and convictions nationally for underage drinking.In a survey of 20 separate Garda divisions Kerry has the fourth highest prosecution and conviction rate. Over 6 per cent of convictions for serving minors nationally take place in the county. 7 per cent of closure orders and 5 per cent of prosecutions are in Kerry. This means that out of 39 cases brought against pubs in the county 25 were convicted and 23 were served with an order to close.
