A Green Party general election candidate claims funding for bypass projects could have been spent to provide a better public transport system.
Cleo Murphy, who’s running for the Green Party in Kerry, says Government spending of more than €700m on bypasses could have provided Kerry with a top-class public transport system to Cork and Limerick.
€280 million will be spent on the Macroom bypass, while the Adare bypass will cost €450m.
Cleo Murphy says people in rural Ireland are being isolated, adding people who use public transport are being ignored.
She says people have outlined that the Tralee to Cork bus is regularly passing by those waiting as it’s already over capacity, which isn’t good enough:
