The team representing our Club in the Jimmy Bruen Shield has now advanced to the West Munster Final which has been scheduled to be played at Tralee Golf Club on Wednesday the 24th of May at 4.00 P.M. when we will be up against Newcastle West Golf Club. Club Captain Declan McCarthy is also hoping that the support for the team at Tralee on the 24th will be as good as it was in Dooks last weekend, and several of the team remarked that whenever they were down in their matches, they gained tremendous encouragement from the many members both Men and Ladies who had travelled to support the team.
Killarney were up against Waterville Golf Club in the 2nd round which we won by a margin of 3 and a half points to 1 and a half points.
• Tom long & David Moloney won 2/1
• James Curran & Ger Moroney won 2/1
• Dan Doona & Padraig Sweeney won 2/1
• Liam Hartnett & Jason Arthur lost 4/3
• Dermot Roche & Darren Mulcahy were called in when level with 2 holes to play.
The result belies the tightness of the tussle, as after 9 holes we were behind in 4 of the 5 matches, and all square in the 5th match
In the 3rd round we faced our near neighbours and friends from Beaufort Golf Club and again we were behind in the early stages, but again the team staged a great recovery and in the end were comfortable winners by a margin of 3 and a half matches to 1 and a half matches,
• Dermot Roche & Darren Mulcahy won 3/2
• Peter McEnery & Ryan Kelliher lost 4/3
• James Curran & Ger Moroney won 2/1
• Liam Hartnett & Jason Arthur had posted our 1st win of the tie when they won 5/4
• Dan Doona & Padraig Sweeney were called in when level after 16 holes.
In the semi-final Killarney faced home favourites Dooks Golf Club, and a very tight ding-dong match was expected and was exactly what we got.
• Tom Long & David Moloney won 1 up
• Dermot Roche & Darren Mulcahy won 2 up
• Liam Hartnett & Jason Arthur with a 5/4 victory
• Both matches with James Curran & Ger Moroney, and Padraig Sweeney & Peter McEnery were called in from the 18th fairway and 17th tee, respectively with both matches standing at all square.
