Kerry Fine Gael TD says he’s very close to leaving parliamentary party

Brendan Griffin   The Fine Gael TD for Kerry South says he’s coming very close to leaving the parliamentary party over the coalition’s handling of water charges and political reform. Deputy Brendan Griffin says the Fine Gael/Labour government has mishandled the establishment of Irish Water. He says problems dated back to when he said the Government forced through the water services bill last December with only 3 hours’ debate. Deputy Griffin says backbench TDs like himself are forced under the party whip system to vote with the Government or face expulsion. He says this is stifling debate and political reform is needed. Brendan Griffin says he has voted along party lines despite his unhappiness with some of their decisions because he feels he can do more for his constituents within Government. But speaking to Jerry O’Sullivan on Kerry Today, he says he’s coming close to breaking with the Government. [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/30670/medium/”]
