Kerry Fine Gael representatives say government has no intention of discontinuing Christmas bonus

The Government has no intention of discontinuing the Christmas Bonus, according to Fine Gael representatives in the county.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin and Senator Paul Coghlan say many people have been concerned in recent days following reports regarding the social welfare Christmas Bonus.

They say Minister Regina Doherty has no intention of discontinuing the Christmas Bonus for any social welfare recipient.

They add there is currently no provision for the bonus in the Department of Social Protection’s allocation for 2018.

However, the decision to pay a Christmas Bonus is made at budget time each year.
