Kerry Fianna Fáil councillors surveyed on support for Sean Gallagher presidential bid

Only one Kerry Fianna Fáil councilllor would wholeheartedly share party colleague Cllr. Niall Kelleher’s support of a presidential bid by businessman Seán Gallagher.

A Radio Kerry survey of the Fianna Fáil councillors in Kerry shows only Cllr. John Joe Culloty would also back a bid by Mr. Gallagher at present.

Cllr. Niall Kelleher stated on Thursday that he would support a presidential bid by Seán Gallagher.

Radio Kerry News contacted the 9 other Fianna Fáil councillors in Kerry, only one of whom would endorse that position at present.

Cllr. John Joe Culloty said he would also back the 2011 presidential candidate if he runs.

Councillor John Francis Flynn said he would more than likely back a bid by Mr. Gallagher, while Cllr. Jimmy Moloney would consider supporting him.

Kerry County Council will meet potential presidential candidates on September 3rd.

Councillors Norma Foley, Thomas McEllistrim, Michael Cahill, John Lucid and Michael D. O’Shea said they will make a decision after this meeting.

Councillor Norma Moriarty, who was recently added to the Fianna Fáil ticket for the next general election, along with TD John Brassil, says she’s happy to support President Michael D. Higgins.
