Kerry escapes the worst as East of the country wakes up to blanket of snow

The east of country has woken up to a blanket of snow with a red weather warning in place – however Kerry has so far escaped the worst.

The alert came into effect for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath at 5 this morning and will remain in place until 12 tomorrow afternoon.

An orange alert has been extended to Cork, Waterford and Wexford.

Decisions on school closures will be made locally depending on circumstances in their area.


Schools in Kerry remain open today and Gardai say there is no problem with roads so far in most parts of the county.
Bus Eireann services are running as normal – with some delays  – but Kerry Airport says the 7.30am flight to Dublin was delayed due to the closure of Dublin Airport earlier this morning.
Motorist in Kerry are being advised that roads could be dangerous later today and this evening as temperatures are expected to plummet from 6pm onwards
