There are 16 times more people employed in IDA companies in Cork than there are in Kerry. That’s according Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin. He says less than 2000 of the total 30,419 people employed in IDA client companies in the Cork-Kerry region are based in Kerry. 158 multinational IDA companies are based in the Cork-Kerry region, just 12 of them are in Kerry. Deputy Griffin asked Jobs Minister Richard Bruton about a dedicated IDA office for Kerry. In response IDA Ireland told Minister Bruton it is satisfied that its footprint in the South West is sufficient to meet the requirements for foreign direct investment. Separately Minister Bruton provided figures in response to a parliamentary question from Fianna Fáil’s Dara Calleary; that in the first 6 months of this year there were 19 IDA visits to Cork and Limerick, while there were just 3 to Kerry.
