A Kerry County Councillor says he’ll support any presidential bid by Sean Gallagher.
Councillor Niall Kelleher believes Sean Gallagher, the businessman who contested the 2011 Presidential Election, would be suited to the office of President.
Councillor Kelleher is one of seven councillors nationwide who have come out in support for a presidential bid by Mr Gallagher, who is yet to announce his intentions.
The Fianna Fáil councillor denies he’s going against his party’s wishes; he says the parliamentary party decided to back Michael D Higgins, however, local councillors are free to choose otherwise.
When asked if Mr Gallagher will become the de facto Fianna Fáil candidate, Councillor Kelleher says maybe the party is adopting him in the absence of their own candidate.
The Fianna Fáil councillor believes Mr Gallagher would do a better job than the incumbent, President Michael D. Higgins.
