A Kerry County Councillor says a recent report confirms the scale of the housing problem in the county.
Sinn Féin councillor Toiréasa Ferris says the latest Daft.ie report has confirmed that rents have spiralled out of control and show no signs of slowing down.
Rents in Kerry have risen 8.9% in a year and the average rent now stands at €768 in the county.
Cllr Ferris says it’s clear that government efforts to date have had no impact and it was time for Minister Eoghan Murphy and the government to take strong, definitive action.
She says, each week in Kerry, people are having to present themselves as homeless as they cannot find suitable and affordable accommodation in which to live.
Councillor Ferris says councils should be allowed to build social and affordable housing in order to avert future housing issues.
