Kerry County Council to use Eircodes to crack down on illegal dumping

Kerry County Council is to use Eircodes to crack down on illegal dumping.

Councillors yesterday approved new bye-laws on waste collection and disposal.

For people that don’t avail of a bin collection service, they must ensure recyclable and other waste is taken to an authorised facility, and receipts kept for a year.

Director of Services, John Breen says they’ve been looking at a pilot scheme undertaken by Sligo County Council where waste collectors gave the council the Eircodes of customers.

This shows who gets their bin collected, meaning the council will only inspect premises not availing of such a service.

Mr Breen says anyone disposing of their waste at bring banks and authorised waste disposal facilities have nothing to fear from the new bye-laws.
