Kerry County Council spends close to €2 million annually on public lighting

Kerry County Council spends €1.95 million annually on public lighting.

This covers supply and maintenance of 13,200 lights, as well as festive lighting, traffic lights, and street bollards.

1,390 council lights have been upgraded to LED lanterns; LED is a highly energy efficient lighting technology.

Independent Cllr Maura Healy-Rae raised the issue at the recent county council meeting, asking if the council was following up on a commitment given in 2015 for all public lights to be replaced with LEDs.

The council says the majority of lights date back to the 1960s and 70s, and there are significant issues to be addressed including funding.
