Kerry County Council is actively considering naming and shaming litter louts.
It’s one of a number of proposals before councillors as part of the Draft Litter Management Plan for the county; they’ll now go before the Municipal Districts before being adopted for two years.
Director of Services for Community and Enterprise, John Breen was disappointed at the low level of response to the public consultation process on the Waste Litter Management Plan.
He says nine people were successfully prosecuted in Kerry last year for littering.
Mr Breen believes however, that this doesn’t get enough of attention, and if people were named and shamed in the media it would deter them from littering.
