A Kerry councillor has suggested a CPO may be needed to acquire land for a car park in Inch.
Councillor Michael O’Shea brought the motion to a meeting of the South and West Municipal District, calling for Kerry County Council to purchase lands adjoining Inch beach for the purpose of car parking and facilitating amenities.
Councillor Michael O’Shea says the council is currently leasing the existing car park in Inch and, due to the growing popularity of the West Kerry beach, additional car parking in urgently needed.
Kerry County Council says it’s attempted to acquire lands previously, however, these have proven unsuccessful.
The council’s tourism strategy includes a proposal to upgrade facilities at Inch Beach, subject to funding becoming available.
It adds that the majority of the lands adjoining the beach have designations attached to them.
Councillor O’Shea says it’s time to act in relation to securing lands at Inch, and he adds a compulsory purchase order may need to be considered.
