Kerry councillor claims the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has “washed its hands” of Kerry fishing community

A Kerry county councillor claims that the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has “washed its hands of the oldest fishing community in the county”.
Cllr Michael Cahill has described a department statement that proposals for a potential future pier development project in Cromane being a matter for Kerry County Council, as “disgraceful”.
Last July, the department confirmed it would not provide funding to construct a pier in Cromane.
Cllr Cahill claims the department’s most recent response to proposals in relation to the construction of a suitable pier has angered the local community and the wider mid/south Kerry region.
He says that all stakeholders involved, including the department, should begin talks in relation to a safer option instead of the method currently being used.
