Kerry councillor fears people will soon have to be buried outside their own parish

A Kerry councillor says people will soon have to be buried outside their own parish, if a graveyard isn’t extended.
Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Cahill made the claim at the recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting, following a question he submitted to the local authority on the number of burial plots in the Beaufort parish.
He says local residents are concerned that, due to capacity issues, they and their loved ones may have to be buried outside the community.
In response, Kerry County Council said based on current burial rates there are approximately five years remaining in Churchtown Burial Ground.
However, the local authority says it’ll continue to seek lands with a view to extending the cemetery.
