The level of bureaucracy surrounding CCTV is making it impossible for Kerry communities to install it.
That’s the view of John Fox of the Tarbert Development Association.
He says despite extensively looking into the process of installing CCTV, it is still not clear how much it would cost them.
Mr Fox says the onus is put on voluntary groups who have to come up with 40% of the cost; he says small local groups don’t have those funds available.
He adds the level of bureaucracy is in an attempt to stop communities taking it on.
Kerry County Councillor and chair of the Joint Policing Committee Niall Kelleher, says having CCTV will help in policing the county and make it safer.
Cllr Kelleher is calling for more funding to be made available to help small communities establish a system.
The issue is of significant concern in Kerry for years now, according to Niall Kelleher.
He wants to see more willingness from Government to establish CCTV to help target crime in Kerry.
