A Kerry County Councillor says the Repair and Lease Scheme should be overhauled.
The Department of Housing scheme provides a maximum of €40,000 to owners of vacant buildings who can’t afford refurbishments needed for re-letting.
The costs are recovered through an agreement whereby units are leased back to the council on a long-term basis.
So far this year, just six applications have been received by Kerry County Council with two offer letters being issued.
