Kerry branch of international security firm faces closure

G4SThe Kerry branch of an international security firm is facing closure. Radio Kerry News has learned that G4S, the world’s largest security firm, is planning to close its branch in Tralee. The company employs 12 people here and is based in the Clash Industrial Estate Radio Kerry is awaiting a comment from G4S. However, we have learned that a SIPTU union organiser is meeting staff this evening to discuss their future. Radio Kerry understands there will be no compulsory redundancies. G4S is offering to redeploy staff within the company but it’s not clear to where. The firm has eight other branches in Ireland – in Athlone, Dublin, Drogheda, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford. Recently it announced plans to lay off up to 400 staff in the UK. In August, it said it planned 100 redundancies from its 615 Irish staff and that it wanted to renegotiate contracts with suppliers.
