Kerry anglers are being called on to become citizen scientists.
They’re needed for the new National Salmon Scale Project, which will help researchers understand the challenges salmon are facing today.
It’s been initiated by Inland Fisheries Ireland, and aims to collect vital information through scales taken from salmon and sea trout caught in Irish rivers and lakes.
Fish scales record their life history and help scientists understand the biology and ecology of Irish salmon and sea trout.
Interested anglers are being asked to contact Inland Fisheries Ireland for scale sample envelopes.
