Kerry above national average for waiting times for first appointment with MABS

Money Advice and Budgeting Service MABSPeople in Kerry are waiting almost five weeks for a first appointment with the Money Advice and Budgeting Service. That’s according to Tralee Town Councillor Pa Daly who acquired the figures following a parliamentary question posed by Sinn Féin. 20 people are waiting in Kerry for first time appointments with MABS. The service has offices in Tralee and Killarney. In Donegal North the average waiting time is 26 weeks, in Waterford West there is a waiting time of less than one week. Kerry is above the national average for waiting times. However Councillor Daly says he is concerned that waiting times in Kerry doubled in the last six months of 2013. The Minister for Social Protection says she’s satisfied ongoing monitoring of MABS services and the deployment of available resources will continue to contribute to the reduction of waiting times across the network.
