The failure to secure a multi-functional community space for Kenmare has been met with anger and disappointment.
Last February, it was announced that Kerry was to benefit from funding under the Rural Regeneration Scheme; this included a grant of €275,000 for the purchase and development of the Ceann Mara Net Factory in Kenmare.
The space would have been used for the local men’s shed, an artists’ hub and storage.
The proposal was a joint venture by Kerry County Council and Kenmare Marketing and Events Group; however, it appears the bid has been unsuccessful and the grant will not be delivered as it is specific to the site.
Helen McDwyer from the Kenmare Marketing and Events Group told Jerry O’Sullivan the council could have moved to buy the site but failed to act in time and have now been outbid:
Meanwhile, Kerry County Council says it has not received any correspondence or notification in relation to the outcome of the bidding process so any comment at this stage would not be appropriate.
