KCC invite tenders for €230.000 sculpture

Kerry County Council is inviting tenders for a 230,000 sculpture that will celebrate the county’s football culture and heritage. The theme of the sculpture is to design a figurative piece that will depict the game, energy and skill. It’s the first piece of its kind to be depicted by the Council. The Council says pieces that will be considered will have a three or four figure that is life size or larger than life size. A high fielding pose may also be considered. The budget for this project is 230,000 euro, which is one of the largest public art commissions ever initiated for the county. It’s the first sculpture of its kind to be commissioned by the local authority in the county and submissions will be picked by a panel of arts experts, the arts office and perhaps an engineer from the local authority. Limerick Council already has a piece for the county’s hurlers. The artwork is expected to be completed by May 2007. It`s expected to be situated near County buildings, however no definite location has been chosen.
