Kerry County Council has made an application to the OPW under the Minor Works Scheme for flood relief measure at Clieveragh, Listowel.

The council is currently completing the design for flood relief measures at Incherea, Currow and Foiladuane / Glenflesk.

It’s proposed they will be submitted to the OPW shortly.

The dedicated business unit which has been established to examine and prioritize coastal protection works and flood relief works will also be assessing what works may be required to address the risk of flooding in Cahersiveen following the heavy rainfall experienced last October.

Kerry County Council was responding to a request for an update on OPW funding applications in 2017 under the Coastal Protection Works Scheme from Cllr Michael Cahill.

Cllr Cahill also asked the council write again to the Minister responsible who had not responded to previous correspondance.

In relation to Coastal Protection Works, the council will need to retain consultants to undertake coastal risk management studies with funding being sought from the OPW.

The council is also engaging with NUI Galway and UCC as partners in EU funding opportunities for various studies on coastal erosion.
