Jimmy Deenihan will not run in next Election

Former Kerry Minister Jimmy Deenihan has announced he will not run in the next election after over 30 years in political life.

The Finuge man got involved in politics in 1982 and was appointed a Fine Gael Senator by Garret FitzGerald in 1983; he later served the county as a TD and held positions as Senior and Junior Minister.

The 64-year-old, who lost his seat in the last election, made the announcement on Radio Kerry this morning.

Mr Deenihan, who is Chair of Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership, says he will continue to work in the community and has few regrets about his time in politics:
